Mid-December

It’s the middle of December, the 15th is at midnight. The Geminid Meteor Shower was visible this week in my part of the world, although not to me, as I live in the city, and between the light pollution, the cloud cover, and my need to be in bed before midnight meant I saw pictures of the Geminids on the internet. Christmas and holiday lights are everywhere, including on our house, although we’ve yet to see much snow (but I’m not complaining).

So St. Nick’s Day brought me a most unexpected gift, and I didn’t even have to tear paper off a box. Bill and I had the great luck to see the band Train in concert December 6th at the Fillmore Detroit Theatre. What started out as a tension filled evening, as we were so high in the last of the balconies that we both got a bit dizzy, turned into a memorable event with Pat Monaghan singing many of the band’s biggest hits not thirty feet away from us. The emcee made an announcement after the last of the opening acts that anyone in the balconies who wanted to come down to the front of the stage were welcome to do so. So there we were standing on the floor, watching great entertainers singing and playing and thoroughly enjoying themselves. And we enjoyed ourselves too.

As we move into the last 10 days before Christmas, I find the the small joys and the big anticipations a welcome part of the holiday season. I’ve gotten this far, and I look forward to the rest of December with all good things ahead.
