It’s snowing lightly in Toledo, enough to have canceled our plans, and so I hunkered down in the cold to write. I finished a poem I’m entering in a Valentine writing contest next week. It came easy at first, earlier in the week, then a trickle of inspiration here and there, and then hard to work on today. I put it aside, looked out the window at the ice forming on the driveway and street, and decided to pick up my poem again. What else is there to do? The words came easier again, and because the contest has a rather short word count, I wrote until I bumped up against the maximum words allowed. It worked! Next, I’ll ‘bake’ it until Monday or Tuesday. Maybe a cold, snowy day in February in northern Ohio isn’t so bad after all.
